Sunday 25th September sees the 1st Annual County Challenge Trophy take places. A multi-age group event which sees female players from Northumberland compete against Durham & Cleveland to take away the cup.
The event is designed to offer a chance for more girls to represent their County, and by-so-doing, provide more encouragement to them to keep competing. The event is open to girls who have not represented their county in singles in Summer County Cup during 2016.
Organiser James Newman said "we're really happy this event is taking place. In Northumberland, we've tried to take a more personal approach to encourage girls to compete. It can be a daunting environment and we want to reward and incentivize their continued participation".
Newman continued "thanks to a grant from the LTA, Northumberland LTA and Durham and Cleveland LTA - we are sure we'll offer a fantastic event that the girls will enjoy being part of".
The girls will compete in four age groups (9&U, 10&U, 12&U, 14&U) and the team who wins the most matches overall, will take away the trophy. When they are not playing, the girls will be encouraged to act as 'captain' and sit on court for a teammate to offer advice between change-overs.
9&U: Elena Baggett, Paige Charlton, Aimee Knowles, Lilly-May Todd
10&U: Elizabeth Graham, Scarlett Wilson-Baker
12&U: Louise Smith, Tamara Thorpe
