October Half-Term means Winter National 'Grade 2' time for many of the academy's young players, who compete against the best players from around the country in their age groups.
In 12&Us, Matthew Nice was a main draw entry at the event, held in Gosling, and managed to win through to the 2nd round before being stopped by Joshua Bright, who went on to make quarters. Also at Gosling, Kirstin McLeod cemented her excellent progress in 2016, by qualifying for main draw in the Girls 12&U and winning a round against Jessica Spencer, before succumbing to the 5th seed in Round 2.
To the west in Bath, James Hale, Will Gray and Harry Cookson all made main draw at the 14&U Boys. Harry fell in the first round, James made Second Round and Will Gray won the consolation event, beating Jack Pinnington Jones in the final, winning 10-8 in the 3rd set match tiebreak.
The 16&U Girls draw which took place in Sunderland, saw Megan Almond make Round 2 before being overcome by eventual semi-finalist Alessandra Ruggieri.
Megan also did superbly to make main draw of 18&Us in Bolton, she was joined there by fellow academy player Steph Booth, who had a strong run to the quarter-finals, beating Isabelle Marshall and Danielle Daley on the way.
