AASE Victoria Wins in Hull!

Victoria Lapthorne, a recent addition to the academy, secured a British Tour title at the weekend, by defeating 2nd seed Megan Hopton 6-2 6-4 on Saturday to lift the trophy.

Victoria, 16, trains both in Yorkshire and Northumberland, and is undertaking an Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Sport Excellence (AASE) at the academy. This allows her to play a high level of tennis whilst also completing further studies.

The win in Hull over the weekend came after Victoria progressed through qualifying to win through 4 main draw rounds in order to pick up the title.

James Newman, who supervisors the AASE scheme at Northumberland Academy said: "Victoria is a superb addition to the academy. She as vast experience and plays at a very high level. I'm delighted she has achieved this success and I am sure it is one of many more to come. The other players at the academy will also benefit from the professionalism and quality she shows when she steps on court".

Victoria accesses the centre on Thursday - please give her a warm welcome!
