Abby Stars in National Victory

Despite being only 9, Northumberland girl Abby Kelliher is one of the academy's longer serving players, having started early in life on the Mini Red programme. This young tennis devotee has just enjoyed her greatest tennis weekend, having been crowned 10U National Winter Tour Champion at the Grade 2 event in Bolton.

The draw featured the top 32 girls in the country and Abby had to battle through 5 rounds of matches to be crowned champion, defeating Amelie Brooks in the final, 5-4 5-3.

Abby put in a fantastic performance over the weekend, showing superb attitude, determination and, of course, indisputable levels of effort. It was great to see all this hard work rewarded.

Abby's coach, Chris Sanderson said: 'Abby has worked with passion and dedication for a number of years, and it was excellent to see her get rewarded for all of her hard work. This event featured the top girls in the country and Abby showed true grit to come through some tough matches. Of course, there is a lot more work and many more matches to go for Abby but this is a fantastic reflection of all of her effort so far".

Congratulations Abby, a fine, fine achievement!
